Question 1

What do I need to start taking driving lessons?

Accepted Answer

You need a valid Pennsylvania learner’s permit. If you’re under 18, you’ll also need a parent or guardian’s consent. We provide the vehicle, insurance, and all learning materials — just bring your permit and a positive attitude!

Question 2

How do I get my Pennsylvania learner’s permit?

Accepted Answer

Visit any PennDOT Driver License Center (no appointment needed). You’ll take a vision screening and an 18-question knowledge test — you need at least 15 correct to pass. The total fee for your initial permit and four-year license is approximately $44.50. Study materials are available in the PA Driver’s Manual at dmv.pa.gov.

Question 3

How old do I need to be to start driving lessons?

Accepted Answer

In Pennsylvania, you can apply for a learner’s permit at age 16. Once you have your permit, you can start lessons right away. If you’re 18 or older, you can also get your permit and begin lessons immediately — there’s no age limit for learning to drive!

Question 4

How do I book my first lesson?

Accepted Answer

You can reach us by phone at (267) 595-0156, via WhatsApp, or by email at info@rafaeldrivingschool.com. We’ll find a time that works for your schedule and answer any questions before your first session.

Question 5

How many practice hours do I need before taking the road test?

Accepted Answer

If you’re under 18, Pennsylvania law requires at least 65 hours of supervised behind-the-wheel practice, including 10 hours at night and 5 hours in bad weather, over a minimum 6-month period. If you’re 18 or older, there is no minimum hour requirement — you can take the road test whenever you feel ready.

Question 6

What is the PA knowledge test like?

Accepted Answer

The PennDOT knowledge test is 18 multiple-choice questions covering traffic signs, PA driving laws, and safe driving practices. You need at least 15 correct answers (83%) to pass. If you fail, you can retake it the next business day. We recommend studying the official PA Driver’s Manual.

Question 7

Do I get an insurance discount for completing driving lessons?

Accepted Answer

Yes! Most major insurance providers in Pennsylvania offer a 10–15% discount when you complete a certified 6-hour behind-the-wheel driving course. We provide a certificate of completion that you can submit to your insurance company.

Question 8

Which course is right for me?

Accepted Answer

Our Beginner Package ($699) is perfect if you’re starting from scratch with no driving experience. The Intermediate Package ($449) is great if you have some practice but want to build confidence and refine your skills. Hourly Practice ($89/hour) is ideal if you haven’t driven in a while or want extra practice before your test.

Question 9

Can I purchase individual lessons instead of a package?

Accepted Answer

Yes, individual lessons are $89 per hour. Our packages offer better value and a structured path from start to finish — the Beginner Package also includes our car for your road test and booking your test appointment.

Question 10

Do you offer payment plans?

Accepted Answer

Yes! We offer flexible payment options to make lessons accessible. You can pay in full upfront or split payments into installments. Contact us to discuss what works best for your budget.

Question 11

What’s included in the course price?

Accepted Answer

All courses include one-on-one behind-the-wheel instruction in our vehicles, pick-up and drop-off service within our area, progress tracking, and road test preparation. Our vehicles are fully insured and equipped with dual controls for your safety.

Question 12

What are your hours of operation?

Accepted Answer

Question 13

Question 14

How long is each driving lesson?

Accepted Answer

Standard lessons are 1 hour or 90 minutes. We find these durations optimal for learning without fatigue. You can also schedule back-to-back sessions if you prefer a longer practice time.

Question 15

What’s your cancellation policy?

Accepted Answer

We require at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations (less than 24 hours) may be charged for the session. We understand emergencies happen and handle those on a case-by-case basis.

Question 16

What areas do you serve?

Accepted Answer

We’re based at 2312 S Hutchinson St, Philadelphia, PA 19148 and primarily serve the greater Philadelphia area including South Philadelphia, Center City, North Philadelphia, and surrounding neighborhoods.

Question 17

Do you provide a car for the PennDOT road test?

Accepted Answer

Yes! We can provide one of our dual-control vehicles for your road test. This means you’ll test in a car you’re already comfortable with, which can significantly reduce test-day anxiety.

Question 18

What does the PA road test cover?

Accepted Answer

The PennDOT road test evaluates your vehicle control knowledge, parallel parking (in a 24×8 ft space with one attempt and up to three adjustments), and your ability to drive safely on public roads. You can accumulate up to 30 points of errors — 31 or more points means a failure.

Question 19

How do I schedule my road test?

Accepted Answer

You can schedule your PennDOT road test online at dmv.pa.gov using your permit number and date of birth. PennDOT typically books 4–6 weeks out, so plan ahead. We’ll help you determine when you’re ready and guide you through the scheduling process.

Question 20

How do I know when I’m ready for the road test?

Accepted Answer

Your instructor continuously evaluates your skills throughout your lessons. When you can consistently demonstrate safe driving, proper vehicle control, smooth parallel parking, and confidence in traffic, we’ll recommend you schedule your test. Our 98% first-time pass rate speaks to how well we prepare our students.

Question 21

What if I fail the road test?

Accepted Answer

It happens — don’t worry! If you’re under 18, PA law requires a 7-day wait before retesting. We’ll review exactly what went wrong, provide targeted practice on those areas, and get you ready for your next attempt. Many successful drivers needed more than one try.

Question 22

Are your instructors certified?

Accepted Answer

Yes. All of our instructors are PennDOT-certified, professionally trained, and have passed comprehensive background checks. They have years of experience and are patient, friendly, and committed to your success.

Question 23

Can I request a specific instructor or a female instructor?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely! If you have a preference for a particular instructor, we’ll do our best to accommodate your request based on availability. Just let us know when you book.

Question 24

What type of vehicles do you use for lessons?

Accepted Answer

We use modern, well-maintained vehicles equipped with dual brake and mirror controls for maximum safety. All vehicles have automatic transmission and are regularly inspected, fully insured, and kept clean.
